Brazil’s President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva stated that he will inaugurate the International Police Cooperation Center of the Amazon (CCPI Amazonia) in Manaus, Amazonas, during a meeting of leaders of the Amazon Cooperation Treaty Organization (OTCA).

According to local platforms and statements from the Brazilian government, the Center’s infrastructure includes an intelligence service, operations and logistics divisions, a video surveillance room, a crisis office, a press room, and other spaces dedicated to coordinated action.

“We know that collective responses are needed for the challenges shared by the eight Amazonian countries,” said the president, adding, “we are inaugurating the International Police Cooperation Center of the Amazon, which will intensify the fight against organized crime and environmental crimes,” he emphasized.

Likewise, Brazil’s head of state highlighted: “we have structured the Amazonian Indigenous Peoples Mechanism within OTCA (…) With the new edition of the Amazon Dialogues, we deepen the participation of civil society and amplify the voices of indigenous peoples and traditional and local communities of the region. Together, we will reach COP30, bringing Amazonian solutions to climate change and the transition toward a new sustainable development model,” he stated.

The president also specified that “in the last two years, we have established intergovernmental action networks in areas such as forest management, fire management, water monitoring, and health services.”

For Lula, the Center will help “combat legal mining, drug trafficking, arms smuggling, and to fight against anything else that disturbs us.”
